The Birth of a Princess

Princess Charlotte of Cambridge

Welcome to the world, sweet Princess!

image

I don’t know about you, but I anxiously awaited the arrival of our newest Royal earlier this month, and in fact, all through April as well. I cheered heartily when I heard of her safe arrival. Upon the announcement of her name, I rejoiced in it’s beauty. My husband thinks I’m more English than he is. Well I jolly well am not! ☺ I am 100% American, but I like to think I appreciate and admire all things English and that includes the Royal family.

If you follow this small blog, you will know I created a special recipe in honour of our Princess’s impending arrival. I would love to report to you that I was able to send some of my Sticky Toffee Cake Bars to HRH, but alas it is frowned upon to send food items to Royals. 😕 If you are reading this, Kate, please leave a message and I’d be honoured to bake a box of cookies for you post haste.

So, in honour of this lovely bit of happy news in our world, I have decided to celebrate. I am offering 20% off all Etsy orders in the merry month of May. Just enter PRINCESS at checkout. That’s right! You heard me correctly. Easy as pie.

Happy Monday

image

I just saw this sweet little smiling cookie and knew I had to share it with you.

Does the sight of a happy cookie holding a balloon make you smile?

It does? Great! Let’s start a club and be best friends forever.

If you’d like to join, just leave a comment. If not, it’ll just be me and happy cookie, which is fine.

Have a happy day, friends!

The Royal Treatment: Sticky Toffee Pudding-inspired treats

image

The beautiful Duchess of Cambridge and her royal baby bump

Due Date Announced
Hip, hip, hooray!
Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton) has revealed that the due date for the birth of her second child is mid to late April (see article from Parent Dish here).

In honour of this news and the upcoming birth of Royal Baby #2, we at Mothers Love Cookies have designed a special Royal Cake Bar Gift Box available for a limited time via Yumbles.com and Etsy.com

New Flavour
Kate is said to love sticky toffee pudding (see article and recipe here) – just like so many of us, so we have developed a special recipe for a cake with all the syrupy sweetness of a traditional Sticky Toffee Pudding that also includes the magic ingredients (oats, brewer’s yeast, flaxseed) to help promote a healthy milk supply in nursing Mums. Truly exciting stuff!

We have worked hard to get everything just right for these special cake bars. They are sticky (tick), sweet (tick) and caramel-rich (tick, tick, tick). And I’ll tell you a little secret… if you pop them in the microwave for 10 short seconds, the homemade caramel frosting melts into ooey gooey deliciousness. In short, we have given these cakes the royal treatment.

So gooey

I know you just want to dive right into that toffee sauce. No judgement here.

Sticky Toffee Cake Bars are available on Yumbles.com and Etsy.com from 1 April.

So, what do you think? Aren’t they gorgeous?

All the best,

Solar Eclipse Friday

image

This Friday between approximately 8:30 am and 11:00 am a solar eclipse will be visible in the UK. The eclipse, lasting close to 2 hours, will be partial throughout the UK, with those closer to Scotland snagging the best views.

image

It goes without saying that you must not look directly at the sun, but you can make a nifty little viewer of your very own here courtesy of Timeanddate.com.

I’ll be working at our local primary school during the eclipse, so I’ve transformed my beloved Black & White Cookie recipe, from Brown-eyed Baker into Eclipse Cookies in honour of this special event. I hope the kiddies like them. I must say, I am giddy with excitement, not so much for the eclipse, but for sharing one of my favourite New York City specialities with everyone at school.

image

Wherever you are, I hope you enjoy the eclipse safely, preferably while sampling some delicious eclipse-inspired cookies!

*Just had to share…my cookies were shown on the local news (Look East) as part of their Eclipse coverage! So exciting!

Mother’s Day

image

This weekend, we in the UK, celebrate Mother’s Day. I am really looking forward to being spoilt by my children and husband.

But what do Mums really want for Mother’s Day?

A few years ago, 1,000 Mums were polled in an effort to find out what they would most like in celebration of Mother’s Day.

Here is what they found:

BEST MOTHER’S DAY GIFTS

1. Good night’s sleep and lie in – 20%

2. Quality family time – 18%

3. No tantrums – 15%

4. No kids TV – 12%

5. Someone to cook for them – 9%

6. Children’s artwork  – 8%

6. Hot cup of tea – 8%

8. Clean house – 5%

9. Techy gadget – 4%

10. Cash – 1%

To read the complete article from The Daily Mail, click here.

Do you agree with this list?

What are you hoping for this weekend? Quality family time or a thoughtful gift?
Flowers and chocolates or homemade cards and a lie in?

Whatever it is you are hoping for, I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy every minute of it!

All the best,

Meg x

Behind the Scenes: Mothers Love Cookies Packaging

image

Close up of that lovely washi tape

Packaging is a tricky business, don’t let anyone fool you.

You need to find the right size container to fit your product snuggly, but not crush it, in our case, we chose corrugated boxes.

image

Our boxes with address label

You need to decide how to personalise the container to make it appealing and reflect the value of the product inside. We opted for white boxes. To me, white boxes are bakery boxes and meant to carry yummy things. We decorated the boxes with lovely washi tape (I love this stuff!) and a personalised address label complete with my daughter’s wonderful logo design displayed proudly.

Open box

We chose to line the inside of our boxes with bright pink tissue paper (mainly because it is my favourite colour and makes me happy), tied  carefully with ribbon. I wanted opening a box of our cookies to be something special. I also write a personal note to each Mum and include a gift card from Samfire Handmade Greeting Cards, as well as a business card.

Delicious cookies wrapped in cellophane

The cookies are individually wrapped in spotty cellophane by my own fair hand to ensure freshness (and they look pretty cute, too). Each cookie is like a little present, and I don’t know about you, but I love to open presents!

So, there it is – a behind the scenes look at what goes into packaging up our lovely little cookies. I hope you have enjoyed the tour.

Thank you, and come again.
